Because The Shared Experience Of Live Performance Is Transformative!
The Lake Houston Musical Arts Society exists to fill a need in our community to allow highly skilled local musicians to perform great classical and jazz works and to educate the next generation of young musicians.
Our Mission
is to enrich our community by providing quality musical performances utilizing local and regional talent, enhance the lives of diverse audiences, encourage a deeper appreciation for live classical and jazz music, support local educational institutions, and serve as an artistic ambassador to communities beyond the Lake Houston area.
Our Vision
is for a community that appreciates and supports the power of artistic expression. We will provide meaningful musical opportunities for local singers and instrumentalists through which they can continue their lifelong journey to explore the infinite possibilities of human expression.
Our Mission
It was 1988.
Kingwood, Texas, had fewer than 19,000 residents, but Dudley Cavenaugh had a vision for a quality musical ensemble that would serve the growing community. He and others founded the Kingwood Chorale to enrich the cultural arts by local audiences with classical music events and chamber concerts that showcased the rich talent of local musicians. From the start, the organization had an educational mission and commitment to provide the highest possible level of musicianship.
Our reputation has grown since then.
The original Kingwood Chorale has performed locally, nationally and internationally. In 2004, the Kingwood Big Band came under the Society’s umbrella, bringing audiences everything from jazz standards to original compositions by national artists.
Since then, Kingwood has grown and is now part of a thriving regional hub that includes Humble, Atascocita, New Caney and Porter – nearly 400,000 residents in all. In 2013, the Board of Directors In 2013, officially changed its name to the Lake Houston Musical Arts Society to reflect the wider audience.
Dozens Of Concerts. Hundreds Of Performers. Years Of Experience.
Today, the Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Todd Miller and the Big Band is under the direction of Dennis Eichler. Their combined decades of experience as educators and close connection with Lone Star College – Kingwood have heightened the Society’s impact on the next generation of area performers.
The Society serves as the umbrella organization providing the funding that brings the excitement of live musical performances to local audiences, giving hundreds of local musicians an outlet for their talent, and fostering the next generation of performers through its concerts, seminars and scholarship funds.
Our Artistic Leaders
Bringing together community members who share a love of music. Delighting audiences from the Lake Houston Region. Providing students with the chance to grow and expand their performance horizons. None of that would be possible without the tireless work of our musical directors.
