Musical Education
Did you know that learning to play an instrument or sing has been shown to improve students’ memories, executive function and concentration? Or that musical performance promotes self-esteem and psychological wellbeing?
We do!
We Are Preparing The Next Generation Of Performers And Music Lovers.
Some of the young people we work with go on to perform and teach music. Most will go into other fields, but their passion for music shapes every other part of their lives. Our hope is that all of them will grow in confidence and self-discipline, that they will blossom as individuals and they keep their love of music.
Here are some of the ways we do that:
Performance
Lone Star College – Kingwood students perform in the Kingwood Chorale and Big Band. We coach and challenge them to meet the same high standard as our other performers.
Scholarships
Through our LHMAS fundraising efforts, we provide scholarships to help promising students attend Lone Star College and participate in our national and international tours.
Workshops
We hold regular workshops for high school students. For example, we hold a two-day workshop for singers preparing for regional and state competitions.
The Lone Star
Connection
LHMAS has a deep, historic partnership with Lone Star College. Both of our ensembles are led by Lone Star faculty members. Our scholarships help promising students attend the college. More than anything else, we share LSC-Kingwood’s mission of helping students reaching their educational goals and to enrich their lives.
