About Kingwood Big Band
The Kingwood Big Band, under the esteemed leadership of Dennis Eichler since September 2021, continues to deliver exceptional performances that captivate audiences throughout the Houston area. Established in 2004 by James Stubbs, the ensemble gained prominence through signature concerts such as Cool Evening of Hot Jazz, Holiday at the Harbor, and a distinguished European debut at the Montreux International Jazz Festival.
Under Eichler’s direction, the band has enriched its legacy by collaborating with distinguished guest artists, including saxophonist Jeff Coffin, trombonists Andy Martin and Marshall Gilkes, baritone saxophonist Aaron Lington, and vocalist/trumpeter Benny Benack III, further solidifying its reputation for excellence in the jazz community.
Previously directed by Alfredo Velez, the band’s repertoire showcased timeless works by luminaries including Duke Ellington, Harry James, Stan Kenton, and Tommy Dorsey. In 2016, the ensemble delivered notable performances at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention and Houston’s House of Blues.
